The announcement of a successful test, made by the New China News Agency, comes after a week of diplomatic tensions over the U.S. decision to sell advanced Patriot anti-missile systems to Taiwan neighbors.
"China's experience on the surface-to-surface missiles on the basis of the missile defense interception technology within its territory. Test to achieve the expected goal," said a brief, three-sentence Xinhua statement. "The test is defensive in nature and not aimed at any country," it added.
